[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Chioco Design, designers of the FreeIt Data Solutions Office Space, has installed Juniper's brass linear lighting in their 04 Loft Project. Principal Designer, Jamie Chioco, recently offered his design philosophy with us. Learn more about Chioco Design here. The 04 Loft Project is a residential 3-level, 2-bedroom, 3-bathroom space with a clean and contemporary design and open floor plan. The loft utilizes neutral tones and simple textures to open the space up and create a calming flow throughout the home. The modernized kitchen features a stunning black marble island adorned with camel stools as its central focal point, and surrounded by white countertops and herringbone tile backsplash. The kitchen's cabinetry offers openness with its light wood tone and rich brass accents. To mimic the brass luxurious material, Chioco Design chose Juniper's THIN Surface Mount Display Lights in Satin Brass to rest between white ceiling slats for a uniquely creative and intriguing installation.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="17761" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_column_text]

Chioco Design carried Juniper's lighting into the hallway, using it to elongate the space and provide an even glow to the walkway. The THIN Suspensions are installed with units of two connected sections in Satin Brass finish, similar to the kitchen's lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_gallery interval="3" images="17757,17754,17763,17764" img_size="full" onclick=""][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17760" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-suspension/"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]A workspace is created on the second tier of the three-tier loft. Team Juniper Takes a Field Trip to Dia:Beacon

May
31

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This past week, Juniper's team took a day trip to break the daily routine. Our team ventured 60 miles north of New York City, to Beacon, NY. Beacon is a town full of eateries, hiking, flea markets, and above all, art. With a handful of art galleries located on Beacon's Main Street alone, the town becomes a hub for modern art in all media. On the outskirts of Main Street sits Dia:Beacon.

About Dia

Dia was founded in New York City in 1974 by Philippa de Menil, Heiner Friedrich, and Helen Winkler to help artists achieve visionary projects that might not otherwise be realized because of scale or scope. To suggest the institution’s role in enabling such ambitions, they selected the name “Dia,” taken from the Greek word meaning “through.” Today, Dia is a constellation of sites, from the iconic permanent, site-specific artworks and installations in New York, the American West and Germany; to an exhibition program that has commissioned dozens of breakthrough projects; to the vast galleries of Dia:Beacon; and finally the programs of education and public engagement.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="18514" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]

Since its opening, Dia:Beacon has helped transform the city of Beacon into a vibrant arts destination for visitors from the region, New York City, and beyond.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="18519" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.diaart.org/"][vc_column_text]

3 New Lighting Upgrades for Spring 2019

May
30

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For Spring 2019, we've been busy preparing lighting upgrades to offer new capabilities for our lighting designs. With more efficient parts and new components, Juniper has now widened installation limits to include many new options. Discover our upgrades and how they improve our lighting's capabilities.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="17809" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/local-ceiling-canopy/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

1. New Local Canopies

We've redesigned our local canopies to not only be more minimal and thoughtfully designed, but we've added some new capabilities. Our new design includes a rotatable perforated collar. Available in Standard and Large sizes to complement standard-sized suspended lighting and larger pendants or chandeliers. The perforated collar keeps the power supply inside cool, drawing heat away from the canopy and ultimately increasing its lifespan. Its rotatable feature benefits designs like the THIN Primaries that are center-mounted to the canopy. Users can now rotate the fixture to align to surrounding spaces and furniture as it's installed. With a larger size now available to hold up to two 96W power supplies, virtually all suspended designs up to 177W, can be locally powered.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="17322" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/local-ceiling-canopy/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

2. More Efficient LED's

We've upgraded all of our LED's to be even more efficient than before. We used to offer 78 lm/watt, which, by industry standards is very efficient. We now offer a 90 lm/watt LED standard for all of our THIN and Axis designs. Instead of adding brightness to our segments, we've kept our lumens the same and reduced the wattage per light segment. This results in our new light segments each dropping about 3W while maintaining the same brightness. Essentially, this means more LEDs can fit on a single power supply. Users can now power up to 27 ft of a single light segment, compared to a previous 22 ft, on a 96W power supply. This increases energy efficiency, simplifies installation, and reduces the cost of extra power supplies.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="18540" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

3. Title 24 Certified

Juniper is now Title 24 Certified, which is a required electrical standard for California projects. It is used to discourage using CFL and incandescent lamping in new construction projects to promote a sustainable and energy efficient environment. In order to pass their standards, lighting is tested for low wattage, flickering, power-on speeds, and audible dimming. With this certification, Juniper's THIN and Axis Collection fixtures have been cleared for all California projects. Our Metropolis Collection is currently pending, but we expect that to change in the coming year. Having this certification ensures that they are held to the standards of Title 24 to offer low wattage LEDs that don't flicker or emit sound when dimming. When users turn on Juniper lighting, the fixture immediately reaches its full brightness, instead of a CFL's power-on speed, which turns on dim and slowly gets brighter over time.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="18541" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/components/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Juniper's Modern Lighting Upgrades

We offer lighting upgrades throughout the year as a way to improve our existing collections based on feedback from our clients. Often they begin as custom requests that we design, prototype, and create for a specific project. As we discover that these options solve problems for multiple users, we incorporate them into our standard product line to improve usability. If you have custom requests or need help with a project, please contact our team.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Browse All Lighting" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="View Components" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fcomponents%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Explore More Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fmodern-lighting-blog%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Introducing the THIN Solids, a New Modern Pendant Collection

May

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The THIN System evolves further with the THIN Solids Collection this spring season. As an extension of Juniper's collaboration with Peter Bristol, the THIN Solids Collection is inspired by the Platonic Solids, and translates the three-dimensional shapes into illuminated sculptures.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="18397" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/"][vc_empty_space height="16px"][vc_column_text]

“We began the THIN System with a single line, emphasizing minimalism and compact technology. The collection grew into the Multiples and Primaries collections, offering geometric 2D shapes and simple prism silhouettes. The THIN Solids Collection was the next logical evolution for the THIN System, expanding into the 3D Platonic solids.” Juniper Owner & Founder, Shant Madjarian

We worked with the owner and chef of the restaurant - Hand Hospitality - to create a space that would not distract from the simple, but very sophisticated menu. The hotpot served at O:N exposes the cooking process as each ingredient is added to the bowl of broth cooking in front of you. We translated this by stripping the interior down to it's basic elements. The existing cinderblock walls and concrete floors are exposed while new elements such as the Juniper lighting, stone bench and kitchen walls contrast these rough textures. Each interior element is clear and honest on its own but creates a cohesive space when viewed as a whole.

What's your favorite area or part of the space?

Our favorite area is the bar and open kitchen area. The long narrow corridor opens up to two self-contained spaces, the existing footprint puts this space as the focal point of the restaurant and provides views into the kitchen.

Why did you choose Juniper lighting for this restaurant?

We were drawn to Juniper's lighting for its simplicity. Like the rest of the interior, the lights are the most elemental we could find with nothing unnecessary added to the design. When installed the fixture disappears while the warm light creates a great atmosphere for dining.

How did your personal aesthetic come into play for the project?

We try to be very delicate with our approach to a project and always take inspiration from the existing space. This has a different meaning for each project. For O:N it was important for us to not over design the interior and create a clear line between the new and the existing.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="17741" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/2019/05/02/on-restaurant-in-new-york-installs-thin-suspensions"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Discover Design Director Junho Choi's project here, to learn more about the space, design elements, and to see more photos by Chase Daniel.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Learn More About the ON Restaurant" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2F2019%2F05%2F02%2Fon-restaurant-in-new-york-installs-thin-suspensions|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse Lighting" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2F|title:Products||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Meet Juniper’s Design Associate, Nate

May
15

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Nate was one of Juniper's first employees. He has worked in all corners of the company to help build Juniper to what it is today. He eventually grew into a Design Associate, which shows his creativity and taste in visual aesthetics.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="5860" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/meet-the-team/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT JUNIPER.

I concentrate on creating Juniper’s imagery as a Design Associate. Miren, designer of the Axis Collection for Juniper, helps me conceptualize because she understands Juniper's taste exceptionally well. I also work closely with our Marketing Manager to turn these concepts into the most realistic images. 95% of my time is spent in front of 3DS Max working on renderings

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?

I’m from the suburbs of Chicago. Happy to say I’ve been in New York for 5 years and counting!

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT JUNIPER?

The people and the environment. I'm proud to work in a company filled with diverse and passionate individuals who make me look forward to getting here in the morning (even on a Monday). I’m also eternally grateful that I was able to find my niche and my passion for the arts & design because of Juniper.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

WHERE CAN WE SPOT YOU OUTSIDE OF WORK?

Most weekends when it's warm enough, I'm at Prospect Park. As someone who grew up in the relative calmness of the suburbs, it is my quiet-ish sanctuary within the city. I also love biking up to The Palisades for some extra peace and quiet.

WHAT FUN THINGS DO YOU USUALLY DO?

I just listen to music, hang out with friends, eat good food, and drink wine. In my own time, I also work on my personal abstract art using my two favorite media: photography and rendering.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="11152" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/m-lamp-cordless/"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FIXTURE?

The M Lamp and the THIN Task Lamp, two of the only four products when I started working at Juniper. The fact that they still relevant is a testament to their design and character. They are examples of the qualities that make Juniper innovative and unique. I still enjoy using both my M Lamp and THIN Task Lamp everyday.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Explore All Juniper Fixtures" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Meet The Team" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fmeet-the-team%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Learn More About Us" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fcompany%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

THIN Modular Lighting System Featured in Modern Loft

May
10

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Dyer Studio Inc. designed the Marshall Wells Building in the Pearl, located in Northwestern Portland. The multi-level penthouse offers clean design elements, including Juniper's own THIN Modular Lighting System to adorn the master bedroom and modern bathroom.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="17432" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-vanity-light/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the master bedroom, natural medium-tone woods line the floors as well as outline windows and are matched through the bedroom's side tables. Grey and white neutrals are utilized through textiles to offer clean and airy aesthetics. To offset the light-to-medium tones in the space, Juniper's THIN Suspension adorns the center of the room above the bed. Its two-connected sections offers the ability to create custom dimensions for this space.

The bedroom and bathroom are connected through a divider wall with a window in the top quarter, to let light stream in through the bedroom, but offer the level of privacy a bathroom requires. The master bathroom showcases a modernized square bathtub and shower combination with stainless steel hardware and dark and light grey tilework. Its shared wall with the master bedroom features a light hexagonal tile by Ann Sacks in varying textures for a natural and tranquil aesthetic, complemented by the adjacent wall covered with similar tile in a slender rectangular shape.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17435" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-vanity-light/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17436" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-vanity-light/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On opposing sides of the bathroom are dual vanities, complete with medium-toned wood cabinetry by R. Olson Design to bring warmth and more natural texture to the spa-like setting. The central mirrors' pinstripe black frames are contrasted by Juniper's THIN Surface Mount Vanity Lights in Black Oxide finish. Rotatable LED light arrays are adjustable to direct light either toward or away from the user, providing an ideal set up for contemporary vanity lighting.

Staying within the existing plumbing constraints, we rearranged and expanded the bathroom footprint to create a luxurious ensuite. The goal was to bring natural light from the north bedroom windows into the bathroom space, which was previously shut off. A bath for two was a bonus. The new vanity provides an ideal makeup station in addition to generous storage.
