The section covers new lighting items on the market, including table lamps, sconces, and pendants. Expanding upon the original three silhouettes in the collection, the Axis X Vertical Suspension brings a new orientation to the Axis series. In keeping with the parent collection, the Axis X Vertical Suspension, blends modesty with luxury to create dynamic lighting silhouettes. The Axis X Vertical Suspension is composed of four angle extrusions that, when combined, form a symmetrical cross with four channels of light. The linear solid bronze or wood body is suspended from a single mounting point, creating a long and elegant fixture. The four sources of light within the fixtures can illuminate an entire space, while low dimming capabilities can simplify the fixture to a magnificent light sculpture.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Discover More Press" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fpress%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse the Axis X Vertical Suspension" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2Faxis-x-vertical-suspension%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The On Restaurant in New York offers a dining experience centered around induction cooking right at your table. The flow of time and shifts in temperature play pivotal roles in introducing each stage of the meal. From appetizers to main cooking pots, courses are inspired by various regions in Asia. On aims to present the essence of authentic flavors mixed with their own twists to create a truly unique experience. Their mission is to introduce a new genre of food in a creative, yet comforting way. By avoiding the trivial distractions in common trends, they choose to push their culinary skills to new frontiers to create a place that offers appetizing, soulful and innovative food.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_gallery interval="3" images="17740,17739,17736,17737" img_size="full"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17738" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/the-wally/"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Designed by the Design Director for Studio Gaia, Junho Choi worked with the restaurant owners to create a new dining experience; one with no frills or trends, but one focused on authenticity, honesty, and flavor. The space is essentially stripped bare to push the focus to their culinary creations. With cement floors and walls, wooden ceilings and accent walls offer warmth to complement the space. Within the space is a glass accent wall with dry-erase figure drawings that add an artful focus. Each wooden table and chair set features an induction stovetop for guests to immerse themselves in a unique experience of Korean cuisine. Above the seating area is a row of THIN Suspensions in Satin Nickel to elongate the space. Its 1/2-inch profile keeps the aesthetic of the space modest, while offering a nod to modern industrial design in a luxurious way. Juniper's THIN Lighting System offers magnetic light segments for simple installation and 360° rotatable light after installation. To mark the restaurant's bathrooms, On has installed our Wally in Glossy White finish with custom restroom decals. Wally's are best used as an indicator light to mark occupancy, hotel room numbers, and more. The restaurant, located on Madison Avenue in New York, is the second of the owner's restaurant portfolio. Meet Carlisy, Juniper’s Client Solutions Associate

May
01

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Being part of the Juniper client solutions team not only requires patience and politeness, but the added responsibility of understanding complex lighting terms and specs. You become a consultant more than just someone who sells lighting fixtures to designers, architects, and homeowners. We sat down with Carlisy to grasp how she conquers her day at Juniper.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="8463" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/meet-the-team/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT JUNIPER?

I joined Juniper as a Client Solutions Associate so I am the point of contact for all clients and potential customers. I also make sure orders are processed in a timely manner and answer any inquiries clients may have.

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?

I was born and raised in New York City, but both my parents are from the Dominican Republic.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT JUNIPER?

Easy—my coworkers! They make it so amazing to be part of such an open-minded and respectful work environment. I also love how my role at Juniper allows me to visit off-site locations for clients who need a closer look at their projects in New York.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="11038" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/2018/09/14/patisserie-fouet/"][vc_column_text]

THIN Suspension segments in Satin Brass at Patisserie Fouet

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

What are your INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I enjoy playing softball, listening to true crime podcasts, and watching Netflix in my free time.

WHERE CAN WE SPOT YOU AROUND NEW YORK?

I love being in Uptown Manhattan just because it is surrounded by diverse individuals listening to great music with great drinks.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE JUNIPER LIGHTING FIXTURE? WHY?

It’s difficult to choose just one, so I’m picking the entire THIN System! It's such an innovative and beautiful collection with a minimal profile. I don’t know many fixtures that have light segments able to fully rotate, have high-output lumens, is efficient, and powered via magnetic connections—all while being 1/2 inch in diameter.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space][vc_btn title="Talk To Our Sales Team" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fcustomer-service%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space][vc_btn title="Explore Juniper Projects" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fprojects%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Staks Pancake Kitchen in Memphis Installs THIN Surface Mounts

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]GCD Interiors recently completed a project to revamp Staks Pancake House in Memphis, Tennessee. The interior was renovated to freshen the space and bring a clean aesthetic to the restaurant.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17612" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_column_text]Photography by Sarah Rossi Bell, Selavie Photography[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17613" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17614" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Prior to the renovation, the restaurant featured branded aqua blue walls and clean white accents. The floors were patterned black and white, and a large lighting installation brought focus to the center of the dining room.   GCD Interiors updated this eatery with neutral wood floors that are much more subdued and natural, shifting focus from the floor upward and bringing elegance and comfort to the space. Still continuing the restaurant's blue and white signature interior, GCD deepened the wall color, and added rich brass accents for a bright contrast.   With brass linear frames on the wall aligned to each booth, a central THIN Surface Mount Display Light by Juniper splashes the wall with light. The Satin Brass finish matches the wall's brass frame. With the addition of brass accents to the setting, Staks was quickly elevated to an elegant dining space with rich materials and deep colors. The space now offers a high-end brunch location that the quality of the food can already live up to.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The space opens to a large dining room, lined with matching blue booths and white tabletops. The bartop brightens the room with more white accents and extra diner bar seating. Guests can enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, and desserts in this cheerful and comforting space that's both recognizable and unforgettable.

FAQ: What is the Difference Between CRI and CCT?

Apr
24

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A fixture's CRI and CCT are both very important. But what do these measurements mean? We're here to lay out exactly why they're important, and what you should be aiming for with your lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17267" img_size="full"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

CRI (Color Rendering Index) and R9 Value

What does it mean?

CRI, or Color Rendering Index, determines how accurately the lighting renders eight pastel colors. If the light renders these colors well, it should render all colors well. CRI is measured from 0-100. Generally, a CRI above 90 is considered great, and a CRI of 95 is best using today's technology. Whenever CRI is considered, the term "R9" follows close behind. This is the value to determine how accurately the light can render a true red. An R9 value of 60 or above is considered good, although the higher the R9, the better.

Why does it matter?

A high CRI and R9 value is important in the case of depicting colors accurately in cases such as picture lighting for accurate paint colors, vanity lighting for applying makeup, restaurant lighting to depict food in an appetizing way, and retail lighting to show clothing or products in their truest colors.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17268" img_size="full"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

CCT (Correlated Color Temperature)

What does it mean?

CCT, or Correlated Color Temperature, determines how amber or blue the light's color is. CCT is measured in Kelvin and can range from 1900K to 7500K. The lower the number, the more amber the light's color is. 1900K is warm enough to be considered equivalent to candlelight. The higher the Kelvin, the bluer the temperature becomes. 5000K is very cool, equivalent to daylight.

Why does it matter?

Intimate spaces warrant warmer light temperatures, as opposed to productive spaces calling for cooler light temperatures. We recommend restaurants, living rooms, lounges, and bedrooms use 2400K-3000K color temperatures. Office spaces, health-field spaces, and bathrooms can get cooler, with 3000K-4000K temperatures. Learn more about the ideal color temperature for your space here.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="14618" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/frequently-asked-questions/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Essentially, both measurements should be taken into consideration when choosing lighting for any space. Aiming for the highest CRI and R9 value possible determines accurate color rendering, and knowing which color temperature is ideal for your space will help create the right mood. Juniper offers contemporary lighting in a range of color temperatures, all with a 90+ CRI because we know how important these values are for ideal lighting designs.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Learn About Juniper" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fcompany%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More FAQ's" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Ffrequently-asked-questions%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Camp David in Industry City Elevates the Modern Coworking Space

Apr

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Camp David, a modern coworking space, resides in Industry City, as neighbors to Juniper. As a well-designed, carefully planned reinvention of the modern-day workplace, Camp David offers a sanctuary for small businesses, creative studios, and remote employees. In many of the office spaces, Camp David has placed THIN Task Lamps as task lighting to illuminate their desks. We spoke with Hannah, Brand Manager, and Robin, Membership Development Manager, to learn more about Camp David's ethos, the design of their space, and their future plans.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_gallery interval="3" images="17413,17410,17416" img_size="full" onclick=""][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

What's Camp David's mission?

Camp David's mission is to provide entrepreneurs, freelancers and small businesses with flexible and functional workspace within an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Tell us about the design of your space.

The space is comprised of 50k sq ft spanning three floors. It was designed by David M. Sullivan, along with our founders Mazdack Rassi and Erez Shternlicht and they drew inspiration from Mies van der Rohe and Charlotte Perriand. There was an enormous focus on preserving the integrity of the existing space and its history while simultaneously creating a beautiful and timeless work environment–– we love the concrete columns and beams, original pine flooring and of course of view of lady liberty at sunset from our courtyard.

Why did you choose Juniper THIN Task Lamps for the desktops?

Every element of Camp David's design has been carefully considered, from our custom finishes to our task lamps. We selected the Juniper desk lamp because of its streamlined design and practical functionality embodies Camp David's mantra of "less is more". We love supporting independent designers within Industry City's ecosystem. Camp David is an LED only zone!

What's your experience in the Industry City's campus?

We love acting as nucleus for the campus, where members can take care of business or socialize outside of where they spend most their time. It's inspiring to be surrounded by hundreds of innovative businesses and creative companies and playing a part in the progression of the complex as a whole.

What are your plans for the future of Camp David?

We have been focusing on providing enriching content through events our members love most –– Breakfast discussions, author talks, happy hours. We are gearing up to expand another 20k sq ft within Industry City and are excited to continue growing our community.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval="3" images="17420,17421,17422,17419" img_size="full" onclick=""][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Explore More Lighting Projects" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fprojects%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.juniper-design.com%2Fmodern-lighting-blog%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

“When we decided to launch our brand internationally, New York was a natural choice. It was home [at one point] to both of us and it’s where we conceived of our business, so it’s always been a special place.”

-Das, Co-Founder

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Architectural Digest highlights the Brooklyn campus as a booming design center, quickly evolving out of its industrial history and into a design-focused collection of small studios and shops, complete with food courts and outdoor hubs. With the bones of the building preserved in their industrial aesthetic, DeMuro Das elevated the space into a modern-industrial style with luxurious elements (aka their furniture designs).   Juniper's THIN Lighting System is utilized as the space's sole light source, second to the sun-soaked wall-to-wall windows. The ultra-thin profile of the solid brass light segments complements the space's simplicity and modern design. The fixtures unify all corners of the space through a Satin Brass finish. A THIN Primaries Hexagon and enlarged THIN Primaries Rhombus adorn the back corners of the space, while a THIN Primaries Rectangle greets guests upon entry, and a THIN Multiples Dyad is suspended above the reception desk and office area of the showroom.   DeMuro Das continues to expand into stores from Chicago to Palm Beach with options in London.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Designer Highlight: Chris Taylor, Creative Director of Morris Adjmi

Mar
29

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Chris Taylor joined Morris Adjmi architects in 2012. In his role as Creative Director for Interiors, he works on many of the firm’s projects and ensures that all finished interiors are not only consistent with MA’s high design standards but are also harmoniously integrated with the entire building to produce a comprehensive, unified vision. He is particularly involved with large-scale residential and hospitality projects such as the Atlantic Plumbing buildings in Washington D.C. and the ROOST extended stay hotels. Prior to joining MA, Chris worked as an interior designer for a boutique firm in his native Sydney, Australia where he focused on conceptual design and interior detailing.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17197" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.ma.com/"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

1. What is your design background?

Studied Interior Architecture in Sydney and cut my teeth with a lot of fast-paced fashion retail and hospitality design back home before coming to NYC in 2012 to tackle larger scale residential and commercial projects with MA.

2. What are some of your favorite projects that you've worked on? Why?

The ROOST apartment hotel projects feel special because we helped create a brand from its inception. The first two properties made use of existing buildings so the brand aesthetic had to be strong enough to hold up within another building’s story. Every apartment feels unique -aimed to inspire guests and feel like a friend’s place that you’ve always wanted to stay in. The brand has since set the tone for the extended stay sector within the industry.
Our latest completed ROOST opened a few months ago at The Girard building in center city Philadelphia in an MA ground up building which is a first  – but also a dynamic project in itself with expansive, hotel-like amenities that fall somewhere between the residential and hospitality world.
We’re also in construction for a 61 room hotel out in the Rockaways – (including 7 extended stay suites). The location is a reminder of the city’s diversity – there are so many facets to New York and The Rockaways is a unique pocket where urban meets the beach…we’ve been conscious of creating spaces that resonate with the neighborhood and tell its story – the goal is that every guest feels like a local!

3. What are your favorite and least favorite design tips? Why?

Favorite design tip - don’t be afraid of color. Color in a space can be challenging but so rewarding when it’s done right. It can elevate or set a mood for a room in a second without any other pieces and I love that. Often in the work we do clients will resort to a neutral palette – it’s nice when we can find a happy medium.
Least favorite tip -I don’t always agree when a lighting designer tells me I need to light artwork…I think it depends on the piece – some work need shadow and look great in dark rooms. I don’t really think there are any design “rules” that you have to follow in general there are always exceptions…

4. How would you describe your design aesthetic?

A modern sensibility grounded in function and utility, but layered with honest material choices and lived-in warmth.

5. Why do you want to choose Juniper lighting in a possible project, and what is your favorite Juniper fixture?

Juniper’s principles for design ring true to MA’s interior studio and work – elegant restraint and obsessive about detail. The product is inherently modern but timeless which is why we love it.
Our new favorite is the outdoor Rail system - we just proposed for a  new rooftop terrace. It’s a deceptively simple fixture with loads of configurations – I love how stealth yet functional it is.
