The M Lamp's Design

Designed by David Irwin for Juniper, the M Lamp was influenced by miners' headlamps from the 19th century. Although this design transpired from the past, the portable lamp exhibits modern aesthetics. It is a multi-purpose light fixture with an aluminum body, held by a minimal lantern handle.   The M Lamp features a rotatable 360° lamp head to direct light output. With an on-dim-off push button atop its body, users are able to control lighting with a single click. It is powered by a rechargeable lithium iron battery that lasts up to 70 hours for on-the-go use.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

They featured designer pieces hailing from Industry City, Brooklyn's new design district, such as mid-century modern ceramics, rock candles, and portable lighting.   First on Designboom's Holiday Gift Guide is our M Lamp, designed by David Irwin. This cordless lamp marked a fruitful beginning for Juniper, a product that has since translated into a classic light fixture merged with a modern aesthetic. It has introduced us to the intricate world of design that equipped us to become the lighting manufacturer that we are today, which Designboom narrates as:

"Industry city-based Juniper was one of the original pioneers of the burgeoning brooklyn contemporary lighting scene. Today, Juniper is a fully-integrated design and manufacturing studio, which prides itself on honesty, passion, and craftsmanship."

M Lamp Features

The M Lamp is a straightforward lighting solution that brings meaningful intentions in improving people's lives. Mobilized with a fully rotating head when repositioned, this table lamp exudes adjustable illumination. It is engineered with a push power button, which also functions as a dimmer to modify lighting intensity.   Carrying the M Lamp is a slender lantern handle situated atop its aluminum body. Powered by a rechargeable lithium iron battery, the portable lamp lasts up to 70 hours to enjoy its LED benefits anywhere you go. Surface Magazine Interviews Juniper Founder Shant Madjarian

Dec

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Juniper Founder Shant Madjarian has been featured in multitudes of publications for his simplistic, resourceful thinking. Recently, Surface Magazine interviewed him to discover his design background and how Juniper started as a lighting manufacturer.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="15714" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/2018/10/25/yale-university-ceid-juniper-talk/"][vc_column_text]

Juniper Founder Shant Madjarian Discussing the M Lamp at Yale CEID

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

If you want to start off by telling me a little about life before Juniper…

I was born and raised in Montreal and attended McGill University for my graduates degree in Economics. I grew up in a very entrepreneurial family. My father and mother started a business in the lighting industry that they still to run today. It was very traditional lighting, mostly contract hospitality projects, and it operated very much like a family business. At the time, I wasn’t interested in their business. I pursued my own interests. After I received my degree, I dove into the finance world in New York to pursue investment banking. Fifteen years later, I was working with large corporations, helping them understand their business, corporate profitability, and so on. In some ways, it has nothing to do with what I’m doing now, but in others, I came full circle.

How did Juniper come about?

I found my passion for design. I wanted to create a multiline, multicategory business that worked closely with designers. I was naive at first, to be honest. We had a rough start, like many businesses, but after about two years, large commercial lighting projects started coming in and we started to build a foundation for what I had envisioned for the long term. We pushed through many obstacles until the business gained momentum. A couple of trade shows later, the market started to pick up on what we were doing, and vice versa. Business started taking off and we continued doing what we were doing right, and stopped doing what wasn’t working. Since that turning point, Juniper has tripled in employees, and continues to push forward in creativity and development.
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We talked a little bit about Juniper’s origins, but take me through the time in which we left off until today. What has that journey been like?

When we launched the business, I met a few people that were pivotal in Juniper’s growth. David Irwin was one. At the time, he was a newly graduated designer from Northumbria University in New Castle. We hit it off immediately and ended up talking about a lamp he had designed for a school project. It was a really cool miner’s lamp with a modern twist. He had re-envisioned the lamp as a battery-powered mobile task lamp, and I was fascinated by the idea. I ended up developing it with him and released the M Lamp as one of our first designs.

M Lamp in Glossy White

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

In the same year, I met Peter Bristol, who is now the head industrial designer at Facebook. He’s a very curious, down-to-earth guy. I stumbled upon his work online and started talking to him about his designs. We started talking about what he had in the pipeline, one of them being a task lamp. It had a slender profile and was really intriguing to me. We worked together to develop it, and the THIN Task Lamp was released two years later.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="6889" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-task-lamp/"][vc_column_text]

THIN Task Lamp with Desk Inset in Satin Brass

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

I went full force into both of these products because they appealed to me and I hadn’t seen them anywhere on the market. Once I started developing them, I understood that while they were simple concepts they required complex internal mechanisms. We trouble-shot both designs until we got them right.

Archiproducts Features The Rail Luxury Outdoor Lighting

Dec
11

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="14377" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.archiproducts.com/en/news/distinctive-luminescence_67483"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Publishing information on architecture and design, Archiproducts is an honorable source for design professionals and enthusiasts. In their online news section, they featured our luxury outdoor lighting, the Rail, and discussed its features and the design inspiration behind it.

The Design

The Rail's minimal design was inspired by our THIN Modular Lighting System. Like the THIN, the Rail features a 1/2-inch diameter segment, but with a square profile. This luxury outdoor lighting can be magnetically connected to allow for extensive lengths and independently rotated 320° for lighting adjustability. The Rail offers an aluminum body complemented by a silicone-encased LED to equip a water-resistant system.

The Process

Juniper worked internally to release a design that preserves our ethos. Shant Madjarian, Juniper Founder & Owner, expounds the Rail's modular form:
"The Rail Collection marries durability with urban elegance, delivering an outdoor LED light that acts as a spotlight to the natural environment—a simplistic and sculptural solution."
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="45px"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="12870" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/rail-outdoor-lighting-system"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="12854" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/rail-outdoor-lighting-system"][vc_column_text]

The Rail in Black

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Furthermore, Miren Lasnier, designer of our Axis Collection, contributed to the Rail's modern linear design. As a lighting designer, one of Miren's focus is engineering aesthetically structured fixtures that do not spare their functions:
"When designing Rail, we wanted to develop a light that could sustain weathering, but did not want to sacrifice the aesthetic freedom we have with indoor solutions. We took much consideration into Rail’s materiality and function, ensuring the strength of its structure, while also maintaining the sophisticated minimalism and modularity the Juniper brand is celebrated for."

3 Desk Lighting Inspirations From Juniper’s Instagram To Reduce Tabletop Footprint

Dec
11

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Desk lighting is often associated with table lamps for their traditional function. However, most lamps embody bulky designs, leaving you with less space for productive tasks. We looked back on our Instagram feed and found creative ways to blend tasteful design with function as an alternative to conventional lamps.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

1. Minimal Tabletop Lamp

In order to avoid perceiving your lamp as clutter, opt for fixtures with desk inset. This helps reduce an unnecessary footprint, especially for desks that have limited space. Another solution would be the THIN Shared Task Lamp, an ideal unit for coworking spaces, offices, or study areas. Users can seamlessly connect up to three rotatable segments of the library-inspired lamp to create a more efficient desk lighting. Pair the THIN Shared Task Lamp with our Ground Control Toggle Switch and Ground Control Dimmers in the same luxurious metal finish to harmonize a productive working station.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

2. Geometric Pendant

The THIN Primaries Triangle proves that desk lighting does not need to literally sit on top of your table. Tasks can be effortlessly done with the help of the geometric fixture's three powerful segments beautifully crafted into an equilateral triangle. Take advantage of the THIN Primaries Triangle's fully rotatable segments to reposition lighting as needed. Other mesmerizing shapes include a rhombus, rectangle, hexagon, and square.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

3. High-output Linear Lighting

For duties that depend on high-output lighting, we recommend our Metropolis Suspension. It was born from a larger collection of wall-mounted and wall-to-wall fixtures, primarily designed by Juniper and David Meckley to illuminate the music-venue-turned-office of Argonaut in San Francisco. With this intention, the Metropolis Suspension has two hemispheres that exude a strong output of up to 8,200LM that users can independently dim. This suspended fixture also gives users the option to add a hexagonal mesh diffuser to soften lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

5 Reasons To Install The THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension

Dec
10

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Emerging from a large collection of the THIN Modular Lighting System, the THIN Multiples first debuted with the Dyad, Triad, and Tetrad. Due to popular demand, the Triad and Tetrad were extended into vertical orientations to amplify its linear aesthetics. Below are reasons why the THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension should be on your to-buy list.

1. Has Rotatable Segments

The THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension is available in two designs. The Triad is composed of three light segments, while the Tetrad has four. Their segments fully rotate to allow users to reposition its lighting direction to match their preference.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="13339" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-multiples-vertical-suspension"][vc_column_text]

2. Connects Magnetically

The THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension magnetically interconnects, making installation quick and easy. End brackets hold LED segments parallel to each other. Although segments are unable to interconnect for longer runs, the THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension's drop height can be adjusted during installation to adorn spaces with high ceilings or simply create a chandelier using a single aircraft cable.

3. Available in Luxurious Finishes

The brass fixture is refined with its elegant metal finishes. Available in Satin Brass, Satin Nickel, and Black Oxide, users have a multitude of options to embellish their space with the THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="11294" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/thin-multiples-vertical-suspension"][vc_column_text]

4. Features Customizable Options

The THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension boasts its ability to be completely customized. Users can select their choice of metal finish, lens finish, and color temperature. It is also available in two lengths (24 in. & 36 in) to cater to both large and small spaces.

5. Elongated Life with Dimmer Compatibility

With the THIN Multiples Vertical Suspension’s LED lamping, the fixture is compatible with our Ground Control Dimmers. This feature gives users full control over energy consumption to minimize the LED’s heat output that destroys fixtures over time. Pair it with the Ground Control Toggle Switch for a more logical function that flaunts vintage aesthetics. Juniper is a member of The List, with other prestigious designers that Surface approves of. In their Holiday 2018 Gift Guide, their editors covered futuristic products for the tech-obsessed and recommended our Ground Control Dimmers:

Who says hardware can’t make a sexy gift? These dimmers from Juniper, in particular, can help set a mood. Now that’s a gift that keeps giving.

The Inspiration

Embodying vintage aesthetics, the Ground Control Dimmer is derived from a series of brass power accessories. It was inspired by NASA's mission control desks consisting of switches, knobs, and buttons. Our Ground Control Collection further expands into a toggle switch, power outlet, and double USB port.

About the Ground Control Dimmers

The Ground Control Dimmer extends in two styles—a knob wrapped in knurled texture and a dial with a broad circular plate atop a slender neck. Both these designs hold a satisfying weight as you rotate to dim or power up your fixture. They also bear a click-stop feature to guarantee a fully turned off light.   Encased in a solid brass grommet, the Ground Control Dimmers can be installed to desks, panels, and other furniture. Available in Satin Brass, Satin Nickel, and Black Oxide, the Ground Control Dimmer can be paired with select Juniper products in the same metal finish. Install it alongside other surface-mounted Ground Control power accessories for a luxurious modern workstation.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="7737" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.test.juniper-design.com/products/ground-control-dimmers/"][vc_column_text]
